Stem Cell Therapy for Pets

For dogs and cats suffering from osteoarthritis and not getting good results from other treatments, stem cell therapy provides another option. It’s a therapy that our veterinarians can also use for treating injuries to the spinal cord, bones, ligaments, and tendons.

How Does Stem Cell Therapy Work?

Stem cells are a sort of “blank slate” that can regenerate as any other type of cell.

With stem cell therapy…

  1. Stem cells are taken from the pet’s (or from another animal in its species) bone marrow, umbilical cord blood, or fat.
  2. The stem cells are then injected into the diseased or injured area.

For example, a dog would have stem cells injected in his knee damaged by osteoarthritis. The expectation would be for the cells to move to the damaged tissue, suppressing inflammation, relieving pain, and growing new, healthy tissue.

If you’d like more information about stem cell therapy as an option for your dog or cat, contact us here to schedule a consultation. We’re also available to take care of your pet’s other needs, including wellness and sick care, dentistry, and more.
